The Grind is Toronto’s only free, city-wide, local politics and culture print magazine. We are currently being sued for defamation by an Israeli reservist soldier for our coverage of a Toronto event where he was scheduled to speak. You can learn more about the case here.
We were in the middle of a $100,000 fundraising goal to hire permanent staff, and we got to around $29,000, which was a solid start, but not enough to hire. We’re putting that campaign on hold, and shifting gears to raise enough funds to defend ourselves properly in this defamation lawsuit.
Most donations we receive are in the $5 to $100 range, and we’re going to need a lot of those! We also get some donations in the $100 to $500 range, and a few above that. Any amount you’re able to give helps a lot. If we are able to raise more than we need for the legal defence, that funding will go towards hiring staff and producing more local journalism.
