Review: 100 Sunset

Set in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood, Canadian filmmaker Kunsang Kyirong’s slowburning debut feature film centres on Kunsel (Tenzin Kunsel), a young and introverted young woman who keenly observes other people in her tight-knit Tibetan community. She also steals smaller items from people at community events.

When another young woman, Passang (Sonam Choekyi), and her older husband move into a neighbouring apartment, Kunsel forms a bond with Passang. But after a series of trips together out of the city, the two women take part in a larger theft and their relationship comes undone under mysterious circumstances.

100 Sunset is a moody, immersive film with great acting performances and several beautiful shots. Unfortunately, the many loose ends hold it back from really coming together.
