I’m a mother. A grandmother.

I’m from the Anishinaabe Nation and I’m speaking to you from my territories in Grassy Narrows, which is in Treaty 3 area (northwestern Ontario).

One of the things I wanted to talk to you — Doug Ford — about is why have you been silent about the suffering of my people of Grassy Narrows?

We’ve been poisoned for over 60 years.

We came down to Toronto for the River Run, and you did not reply to requests to talk to you.

To me, it’s horrific what has happened to my people because of the Ford government and how they have treated my people.

As each day goes by for my people, we are dying. We are a dying people because of the poison.

Grassy Narrows has been asking for decades for mercury that was spilled in their lakes and river system to be cleaned up. The mercury has caused widespread poisoning of the community for generations. Learn more at freegrassy.net and watch more from Judy Da Silva at @grassy.narrows.solidarity.
