When Taylor Swift endorses a newly-elected premier of Ontario’s promise to live on minimum wage, he can’t back out. I mean, it’s Taylor Swift, after all.
The premier quickly learns the harsh realities of living on a salary of $36,608 (before tax). The closest place he can afford to live is located in a rough area, making for a difficult and convoluted commute to Queen’s Park via public transit.
Written by Victoria Sullivan, who also acts in the show, Minimum also stars Brandon James Sim, and Christa-Marie Waugh, who deliver over-the-top performances that left the audience roaring with laughter.
The show was a fan favourite at the Hamilton Fringe, and seems well on its way to being a hit in Toronto. Sullivan has created a sharp satire, tackling issues drawn straight from headlines: lack of government transparency, private jets, unwanted airports, and — to wash it all down — the promise of cheap booze.
Minimum is on at Factory Theatre’s Mainspace until July 11
