Everyone knows some version of Evie (Alex Dallas) and Alfie (Jimmy Hogg). They bicker, putter, watch birds, and observe the neighbourhood comings and goings. If you didn’t know better, you’d think they might be simply tolerating one another.

But over the course of Evie & Alfie: A Very British Love Story, the couple’s endearing love story comes into focus as they reminisce about their fateful meeting at the bar, and share stories about their courtship, marriage, children and twilight years.

Dallas and Hogg are sublime storytellers, alternating between Evie and Alfie’s younger and older selves, and recreating the events in their lives that shaped their deep love. The duo convey a keen sense of balance between humour and heartache, requiring nothing more than a pair of chairs to create vibrant memories.

Evie & Alfie is a must-see at the festival this year!

Evie & Alfie: A Very British Love Story is on at Soulpepper Theatre’s Michael Young Theatre until July 12
